Job summary

eleQtron develops and operates quantum computers using trapped ions as qubits. They are seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to ensure the reliability, scalability, and stability of the software systems for their quantum computers. This role involves being a technical contact for system reliability and shaping the operation, monitoring, and development of quantum computers in production-like lab environments.

Qualifications

  • Completed Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a comparable field, or equivalent qualification
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Systems Engineering
  • Proven experience in operating and stabilizing complex, business-critical systems
  • Profound experience with containerized and orchestrated environments
  • Practical experience with monitoring, alerting, and observability systems
  • Experience in leading incident response and conducting post-mortems
  • Strong skills in technical documentation and architecture design
  • Creative mindset and enjoyment of working in a multicultural and interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to make sound technical decisions and trade-offs even under uncertainty
  • Very good English language skills, both written and spoken
  • Experience with hardware-related, laboratory, or cyber-physical systems (preferred)
  • Experience in scientific, research, or experimental environments (preferred)
  • Profound Python knowledge for automation and tooling (preferred)
  • Experience with long-running, stateful workloads (preferred)
  • Understanding of firmware, control systems, or real-time requirements (preferred)
  • Experience with programmatic control of devices (e.g., via SCPI, serial interfaces, USB, or TCP/IP) (preferred)
  • Initial contact points with quantum computing or other deep-tech technologies (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for the reliability strategy of the Quantum Control and Quantum Program Execution Stacks
  • Define and continuously develop SLIs, SLOs, Error Budgets, and operational guardrails
  • Design and develop the observability architecture across software, infrastructure, and hardware-related levels
  • Lead incident response, post-mortems, and root cause analyses for critical system failures
  • Proactively identify systemic risks and drive measures to mitigate them
  • Drive automation initiatives to reduce manual operational effort and improve system stability
  • Create and maintain operational standards, runbooks, and technical documentation
  • Design CI/CD and release processes with a focus on reliability and secure deployments
  • Act as a trusted contact for development teams in designing production-ready systems
  • Mentor engineers and strengthen awareness of reliability topics throughout the company
