Job summary

The Cloud Engineer designs, deploys, tests, and maintains the Azure-based SSA Integration Data Environment, a SaaS platform supporting digital services, data integration, and cybersecurity. The role focuses on cloud networking and security controls, including Azure infrastructure managed through version-controlled Infrastructure-as-Code, while supporting program planning, risk management, and AI-assisted monitoring and response.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, systems engineering, or information technology; equivalent certifications or at least five years of equivalent cloud engineering experience may also qualify.
• Eligible to obtain a Defence Security Clearance.
• At least two years of experience designing, deploying, managing, and operating Azure cloud infrastructure, with a focus on networking.
• At least two years of experience deploying, monitoring, and managing Azure cybersecurity tools and controls, including compliance with ISM cloud controls.
• At least two years of experience designing, deploying, and configuring cloud implementations for operational and financial optimization.
• Experience developing and maintaining functional and technical requirements and specifications.
• Experience developing and executing test plans and scripts, resolving defects, and maintaining traceability.
• Desirable: Further study or demonstrable experience in AI technologies, methodologies, adoption, and implementation.
• Desirable: Experience on integrated teams delivering cloud or technology projects.
• Desirable: Experience in Australian Defence or another information security-focused organization.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support for cloud infrastructure design and deployment, focusing on networking and cybersecurity controls.
• Manage, monitor, and maintain Azure networking infrastructure, including gateways, firewalls, routing tables, VNets, subnets, NSGs, VPN tunnels, and ExpressRoute.
• Manage Azure cybersecurity products, services, and controls for data protection, monitoring, alerting, reporting, and incident response.
• Maintain the cloud environment and platform using version-controlled Infrastructure-as-Code.
• Support planning and risk management for the platform program of work.
• Use AI to accelerate cloud service design and automate aspects of monitoring, cyber posture assessment, and response.
• Collaborate with cloud engineering, digital services, functional, and ICT teams on fit-for-purpose solutions.
