API Platform Engineer, Kong API & AI Gateway

Job summary

Join our international platform team in Madrid as an API Platform Engineer, where you will operate and improve the Kong API Gateway, ensuring secure API connections and automation for onboarding.

Qualifications

• Experience operating an API gateway in production.
• Production experience with Kubernetes or OpenShift and Microsoft Azure.
• Automation skills using GitOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code tools.
• Software engineering or scripting experience, preferably with Go or Java.
• Knowledge of networking, TLS, certificates, and identity standards.
• Experience with observability and incident response in regulated environments.

Responsibilities

• Operate and improve the Kong API Gateway across Microsoft Azure.
• Design and build automation and self-service capabilities for API onboarding.
• Develop platform services using APIs, GitOps, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code.
• Establish observability across metrics, logs, and traces using OpenTelemetry and Grafana.
• Troubleshoot production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
• Share on-call responsibility and eliminate operational toil.
