Release Engineer - Data Plane Internal Tooling and Productivity

Job summary

The Release Engineer role focuses on operational execution and software development for managing ClickHouse Cloud, ensuring the safe delivery and maintenance of tens of thousands of database clusters. Key responsibilities include planning and executing rolling upgrades, owning the full release pipeline, and building internal tooling for reliable database operations, with a strong emphasis on cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience operating stateful distributed systems in production
• Hands-on experience running upgrades or maintenance operations on live production data stores
• Strong production debugging skills
• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and Kubernetes
• Software development experience in Go or another language

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute rolling upgrades across tens of thousands of ClickHouse clusters
• Own the full release pipeline: from pre-upgrade validation and staged rollouts to post-upgrade monitoring and incident response
• Investigate and resolve production issues as part of a regular on-call rotation
• Build and improve the internal tooling and automation for large-scale database operations
• Work closely with core database and cloud infrastructure teams to identify operational pain points
