Job summary

Designs and deploys secure Google Distributed Cloud and sovereign Kubernetes platforms for Australian Defence and national security environments. The role spans hosted, air-gapped and edge infrastructure; GKE architecture; Terraform and GitOps automation; and integration with VMware, hyperconverged infrastructure and legacy Defence systems. It also produces architecture documentation and operational runbooks and supports security compliance, IRAP assessments and vulnerability remediation.

Qualifications

• Active NV1 security clearance; NV2 preferred.
• Australian citizenship.
• At least five years of experience in Australian Defence or Commonwealth national security environments.
• Production-grade experience with GKE, Kubernetes, Anthos or Google Distributed Cloud.
• Expertise in hybrid cloud, bare-metal, software-defined data centers, VMware, hyperconverged infrastructure or edge infrastructure.
• Hands-on Terraform and infrastructure automation experience.
• Understanding of DDIL environments, secure networking and Kubernetes security.
• Knowledge of ISM, DSPF and government security requirements.
• Strong architecture documentation and stakeholder communication skills.
• Relevant degree or equivalent practical experience.
• Google Cloud or Kubernetes certification, direct air-gapped Google Distributed Cloud deployment experience, or knowledge of IRAP, PSPF, DISP or ITAR is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement hosted, air-gapped and edge Google Distributed Cloud infrastructure.
• Architect, secure and manage GKE and Kubernetes platforms in multi-tenant and disconnected environments.
• Implement Terraform-based infrastructure as code and GitOps using Config Sync, Helm and Kustomize.
• Design resilient edge infrastructure, high availability, disaster recovery and business continuity solutions.
• Integrate cloud platforms with VMware, hyperconverged infrastructure and legacy Defence systems.
• Develop high-level and low-level designs, architecture decisions and operational runbooks.
• Apply security controls, IAM and PAM, mutual TLS, and cryptographic key management.
• Support IRAP assessments, vulnerability remediation and Defence security compliance.
