Job summary

The Cloud Engineer will ensure user visible uptime and quality, providing expertise in keeping systems operational and fast to recover. Responsibilities include participating in architecture and design reviews, minimizing manual involvement through continuous improvements, and performing root cause analysis. The engineer will also own the day-to-day health, uptime, security, monitoring, and reliability of services and server infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • Strong working experience with Windows and Linux operating systems
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience
  • Strong experience with AzureDevOps pipeline / VSTS to build and support CI/CD automation
  • Working knowledge of AWS and Azure Cloud Services along with cloud automation
  • Strong experience with Powershell and other scripting languages
  • Experience and knowledge of database technologies, particularly MS SQL
  • Adaptable to learning new tools and ways of working
  • Knowledge of Tosca, Selenium, or similar test automation tools
  • Strong experience with instrumentation, security, monitoring, alerting, and responding relative to performance and availability of applications
  • Understanding of DevSecOps, Continuous Delivery, Agile, and Lean concepts and principles
  • Experience using DevSecOps tools like Chef or Puppet to deliver and operate end-user services
  • Capable of technical deep dives into infrastructure, databases, and applications, specifically in operating and supporting high-performance, highly available services and infrastructure
  • Experience in disaster recovery and business continuity planning
  • Experience operating and supporting mission-critical applications, including incident and outage management
  • Experience in problem-solving issues on globally distributed systems and critical product service environments
  • Knowledge of latest networking, security, infrastructure, database, and application technologies to drive automation and reliability improvements
  • Ability to bring new thinking to challenge existing technology and processes
  • Excellent at building relationships across teams
  • Firm sense of accountability and ownership
  • Desire to understand business and user needs

Responsibilities

  • Ensure user visible uptime and quality, providing expertise in keeping systems operational and fast to recover
  • Participate in architecture and design reviews to provide recommended improvements to development teams to improve application reliability and performance
  • Minimize manual involvement by implementing continuous improvements, including developing new tools, dynamic monitoring, alerting, and automated self-healing and recovery
  • Identify and analyze problems relating to mission-critical services and implement automation to prevent problem recurrence, aiming to automate response to all non-exceptional service conditions
  • Engage in application performance analysis, system tuning, and capacity planning
  • Perform root cause analysis to identify and implement continuous improvements
  • Present analyses and recommendations to leadership or discuss technical merits of solutions with engineers and architects
  • Own the day-to-day health, uptime, security, monitoring, and reliability of services and server infrastructure
  • Practice Agile and Scrum methodologies
