Job summary
The Infrastructure Engineer will be a key contributor on Jack Henry Digital’s Cloud Infrastructure team, responsible for building and operating the core systems that enable scalable, reliable delivery of application and infrastructure services in Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role involves owning deployment pipelines, collaborating with platform teams to deliver compute, identity, observability, tooling, and security capabilities, and partnering with product engineering teams to build high-performance, scalable, and secure services. This position may be worked remotely within the United States, with the exception of California.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in software development, DevOps, or Infrastructure as Code.
- Hands-on experience deploying and managing applications in Kubernetes.
- Practical experience in declarative service infrastructure environments, specifically using Terraform.
- Experience in an AWS, Azure, and/or GCP cloud environment.
- Production programming experience in Go or Python.
- Experience designing and implementing monitoring, logging, and tracing solutions (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or OpenTelemetry).
- Deep familiarity with operating in a Unix/Linux shell.
- Proficiency building and scaling custom Kubernetes controllers and operators (nice to have).
- Experience managing production environments in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) (nice to have).
- Experience with Service Mesh technologies (e.g., Istio, Linkerd) (nice to have).
- Experience with implementing and scaling relational databases, in-memory data structure stores, and streaming data pipelines (e.g., AlloyDB, Memorystore, Pub/Sub) (nice to have).
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum processes (nice to have).
Responsibilities
- Plan, design, and build core infrastructure systems for development and engineering teams.
- Debug critical production infrastructure issues and perform root-cause analysis.
- Design and operate systems with a focus on site health and reliability, enabling automated workload movement and failure avoidance.
- Use software development skills (e.g., Go, Python) to build and enhance platform solutions.
- Act as a proactive collaborator and emerging technical leader, promoting engineering best practices.
- Partner with engineering teams to understand priorities and evolving needs.
- Take ownership of complex technical challenges and drive them to successful completion.
