Cloud Operations Engineer

Job summary

The Cloud Operations Engineer helps maintain the uptime and operational reliability of a multi-cloud database-as-a-service. The role monitors alerts and logs, diagnoses and resolves customer incidents, administers Linux systems, and builds internal tools and automation to improve operations and reduce resolution times. It also coordinates incident response across global teams and works with product management and cloud engineering to improve the systems powering Mon*** Atlas.

• On-call experience as a DevOps, SRE, or Cloud Operations engineer
• Expertise in Linux system administration and networking
• Knowledge of database operations and concepts
• Familiarity with web and internet technologies
• Familiarity with AWS or other cloud platforms, such as GCP and Azure
• Experience with monitoring, performance data collection and analysis, and reporting
• Ability to write programs or scripts to address operational needs
• Proficiency in at least two of Java, Go, Python, and JavaScript
• Interest in learning new technologies and practices

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with global Cloud Operations Engineers to support platform uptime
• Design and build internal tools
• Implement processes and tools to scale global operations
• Scope, design, and deploy systems that reduce incident resolution times
• Monitor and help proactively resolve emerging customer-facing incidents
• Automate monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational processes
• Diagnose live incidents and determine whether issues stem from the platform or usage
• Communicate major outages to executive leadership and escalation teams
• Participate in a weekly on-call rotation
• Collaborate with product management and cloud engineering to improve Atlas management applications
