Job summary
idealo is seeking a Cloud Engineer to evolve their cloud infrastructure and automation, focusing on scalable, secure, and cost-efficient cloud foundations. This role involves developing solutions that balance autonomy, governance, scalability, and operational excellence, working on central systems with company-wide impact.
Qualifications
- Over three years of practical experience with AWS in a multi-account environment, including AWS Organizations, Control Tower, IAM, and Identity Center.
- Profound knowledge of Infrastructure as Code with Terraform and Terragrunt, with experience in building reusable modules and managing infrastructure across different environments.
- Practical programming experience with Go, TypeScript, Node.js, or Python, and experience with automation tools, CLI development, Lambda functions, or cloud-native services.
- Solid knowledge of networking, including VPC design, subnetting, DNS, CDN concepts, and cross-account connectivity patterns.
- Very good English language skills to effectively collaborate with engineers and stakeholders across the company.
- Ability to take responsibility and drive topics independently, actively addressing challenges and finding pragmatic solutions.
- Interest in AI-powered platform engineering and infrastructure workflows, with a basic understanding of concepts like agents, tool integrations, context management, and workflow automation.
- Experience with Kubernetes and GitOps tools (e.g., EKS, Argo CD) is a plus.
- Experience with managed data services (e.g., Kafka, PostgreSQL, MongoDB Atlas, Aurora, DocumentDB) is a plus.
- Familiarity with FinOps practices, cloud cost optimization, or security services (e.g., AWS WAF, Firewall Manager, Private CA, OIDC Federation) is a plus.
- German language skills are a plus.
Responsibilities
- Design and operate the AWS multi-account environment, including account lifecycle management and governance mechanisms like Control Tower and Service Control Policies.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, Terragrunt, and AWS CDK, focusing on reusable modules and scalable platform foundations.
- Develop and operate self-service platform products to help engineering teams provision and manage cloud resources independently.
- Be responsible for and further develop central network functions, including VPC design, DNS management, IP address management, and CDN integrations.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to improve usability, reliability, and operational efficiency of the platform through reusable solutions and automation.
- Take responsibility for platform services, contribute to engineering standards, and support the long-term maintainability of the cloud landscape.
