Contract - Lead Infrastructure Engineer

Job summary

Leads engineering delivery for a complex infrastructure transformation and data-centre migration, translating target architecture into an executable plan and coordinating a team of infrastructure engineers. The role covers estimation, resource planning, technical assurance, and delivery across build, configuration, testing, migration, cutover, and operational handover, with infrastructure spanning VMware/VCF, servers, storage, backup, networking, security, and resilience.

Qualifications

• Experience leading infrastructure engineering teams on large-scale transformation or migration programmes.
• Experience in engineering estimation, resource planning, sequencing, and dependency management.
• Broad understanding of enterprise infrastructure, including VMware/VCF, servers, storage, backup, networking, and high availability or disaster recovery.
• Technical depth to guide and challenge experienced engineers without serving as the detailed subject matter expert for every technology.
• Strong delivery leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate infrastructure engineers, managing workload, priorities, dependencies, and delivery.
• Provide technical leadership and align engineering decisions with target architecture.
• Establish engineering practices that improve quality, repeatability, automation, and technical assurance.
• Translate target architecture into engineering work packages across compute, storage, backup, databases, networking, security, and resilience.
• Estimate engineering effort, resource needs, and delivery complexity with engineering subject matter experts.
• Define dependencies and sequencing, contributing to programme plans, cost estimates, and timelines.
• Monitor progress, risks, blockers, and team capacity, identifying potential delivery impacts.
• Coordinate environment build, configuration, testing, migration, cutover, and operational handover.
• Integrate engineering delivery with architecture, application, database, network, security, and operations teams.
