Data Platform Engineer

Job summary

The Data Platform Engineer will join the Group Technology team in Milton Keynes to deliver and manage the Connells Group Data Platform. This role involves design, capacity management, and configuration management, working with technical specialists and third-party providers. The engineer will mature processes and procedures, supporting business objectives through secure, scalable cloud data platforms.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience in relevant technical roles
• Experience with incident resolution, requests, changes, and problem-solving activities delivered to agreed SLAs
• Experience implementing Cloud Technologies
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric
• Experience managing SQL Server
• Good team communication skills, including sharing and presenting new ideas and approaches
• Willingness to learn, adopt, and advance best practices, procedures, and qualitative standards
• Ability to operate in a complex environment under pressure
• Ability to operate with both legacy and current technology
• Analytical mindset and strong attention to detail
• Experience with GitHub, Git Actions, Terraform, Platform as Code, and Zero Trust architectures
• Experience with advanced tools for operational monitoring
• Ability to operate and influence at all organizational levels
• Experience with tools for alerting and monitoring
• Experience with cloud cost monitoring and reporting
• STEM degree or postgraduate qualification

Responsibilities

• Maintain expertise in Data Platform capabilities
• Maintain the Data Platform for all users, managing critical downtime and disruption risks
• Undertake root cause analysis and incident resolution
• Provide out-of-hours support for operational running as required
• Utilize Agile methodologies for platform development
• Deliver Platform as Code
• Implement technical and financial observability within the Cloud Platform design pattern
• Undertake platform capacity management
• Support projects as appropriate
• Perform proactive monitoring and respond to escalations from other IT teams
• Collaborate with team members
