Data Platform Engineer (m/w/d)

Job summary

As a Data Platform Engineer at Gini, you will develop and operate the data platform that forms the foundation of their services, ensuring databases and data stores run reliably, securely, scalably, and performantly on Bare-Metal Kubernetes. You will be at the intersection of Infrastructure Engineering, Distributed Data Systems, and Developer Experience, taking responsibility for the Data Platform and continuously developing it in close collaboration with developers.

Qualifications

• Experience in operating, administering, and developing databases and data stores such as PostgreSQL, Kafka, RabbitMQ, NoSQL databases, or other distributed data systems.
• Experience with Bare-Metal Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code, and GitOps-based automations.
• Solid understanding of high availability, replication, backup strategies, disaster recovery, and operating productive data platforms.
• Development experience in Java and/or Golang, proficient in at least one programming or scripting language, ideally Go for internal tooling and automations.
• Knowledge of storage systems, performance tuning, query optimization, and operational challenges of large-scale distributed data platforms.
• Security-by-Default mindset and knowledge of best practices for access control, encryption, hardening, reliability, and resilience of data systems.
• Analytical approach to problems, ability to systematically analyze complex distributed systems, take responsibility for services, and proactively drive improvements.
• Enjoy collaborating with developers, understand their data platform requirements, and explain technical trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Proficient in English communication with both technical and non-technical contacts.

Responsibilities

• Operate and develop databases and data stores, from provisioning and operation to continuous optimization and further development.
• Design, operate, and optimize highly available database systems on a Bare-Metal Kubernetes platform.
• Define and establish security best practices, hardening strategies, and standardized configurations for the entire Data Platform.
• Continuously analyze and improve query performance, storage efficiency, and system throughput.
• Automate provisioning, scaling, backups, failover, and maintenance tasks to reduce manual processes.
• Support product teams in developing efficient data access patterns, analyzing problems, and continuously improving data platform usage.
• Analyze and resolve production issues related to data platforms and prevent similar incidents.
• Evaluate new technologies, improve existing systems, and actively shape the long-term strategy of the data platform.
