Job summary

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is seeking outstanding DevOps Engineers to build Core Digital Services that power the UK Government. This role involves designing and implementing highly available, cloud-native infrastructure, ensuring shared platforms are secure, observable, and resilient. Engineers will contribute to a culture of reliability, drive automation, and introduce common tools and patterns to enable secure and scalable code delivery.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable knowledge of implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for automated product build, integration, and deployment
  • Proven experience in creating, securing, and maintaining container images for automated deployment and production environments
  • Experience with large-scale containerized production workloads, including orchestration and deployment tooling like Kubernetes and Helm
  • Proven ability to utilize observability tools (logs, metrics, tracing) and automated testing for system health monitoring and troubleshooting
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary Agile teams, implementing DevOps Practices, and proactively sharing technical knowledge
  • Demonstrable experience provisioning, deploying, and configuring cloud-based infrastructure (AWS) using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), including reusable modules and design patterns

Responsibilities

  • Implement and refine DevOps toolchains for seamless delivery of Core Digital products, ensuring robust and repeatable deployment strategies
  • Identify and resolve technical bottlenecks to maintain high availability, resilience, and scalability of shared platforms (e.g., Payments, Identity)
  • Develop and maintain high-quality technical documentation for wider consumption of Core Services
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to write and maintain clean, flexible code for infrastructure configuration and deployment
  • Actively contribute to the Engineering Community, sharing DevOps best practices and shaping departmental work processes
  • Work with Lead Engineers and Technical Architects to investigate and implement technical solutions, bridging high-level design with automated implementation
  • Champion automation and continuous improvement to reduce manual toil and enhance production environment reliability
