DevOps Engineer (contract outside of IR35)

Job summary

Deploy and maintain a customer-facing cross-domain system built on an AMQP event-driven microservices architecture and Docker containers. The DevOps Engineer maintains CI/CD and configuration management, promotes component releases, monitors service-level and availability objectives, responds to incidents, and automates operations. The environment uses AWS and may include Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Prometheus, and Grafana.

Qualifications

• Experience with infrastructure automation tools such as CloudFormation, Terraform, or Ansible.
• Experience with Docker containers and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes, OpenShift, or Docker Swarm.
• Experience using and maintaining CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
• Understanding of relational databases and SQL.
• Linux command-line, administration, and shell scripting experience.
• Understanding of monitoring, auto-scaling, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and disaster recovery.
• Working knowledge of network security protocols and AWS.
• Experience with monitoring tools such as InfluxDB, Prometheus, or Grafana.
• Eligibility for the required BPSS, SC, or DV security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Promote component releases into production in collaboration with feature development teams.
• Maintain service-level and availability objectives using monitoring tools and system metrics.
• Instrument system metrics and alerts to identify issues early and improve performance.
• Respond to monitoring alerts and customer incidents, taking preventive and remedial action.
• Coordinate capability changes with customer stakeholders and capture service requirements.
• Automate operations to reduce manual work.
