DevOps Engineer (m/w/d)

Job summary

ZDF Sparks is seeking a full-time DevOps Engineer to join their AI innovation journey. This role involves developing, maintaining, and optimizing CI/CD processes for machine learning systems in the cloud, as well as implementing and scaling infrastructure in mixed-cloud environments. The position is initially for 2 years with an option for extension.

Qualifications

• Solid DevOps background with core concepts of CI/CD setups, Docker, Serverless, and fundamental networking
• Practical experience with cloud infrastructures; GCP experience is desirable, AWS or Azure knowledge is an asset
• Experience with Terragrunt or OpenTofu is a plus
• Practical experience with Terraform and container technologies (Docker is a must)
• Basic knowledge of Kubernetes with motivation for in-depth development
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, and scripting
• Knowledge of NoSQL is a plus; JavaScript or Go are advantageous
• Strong understanding of Software Engineering best practices (modularity, DRY principles, SDLC processes) and experience with Observability stacks (monitoring, logging, performance analysis)
• Experience with MLOps, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or CUDA/GPU/TPU applications is a clear plus, as is experience with cloud migrations
• Strong stakeholder management across clients and functions
• Ability to document and communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences
• Team player with a collaborative work style, passion for AI, and desire for continuous learning
• Fluent in German and English

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and optimize CI/CD processes, especially GitLab CI, for machine learning systems in the cloud
• Create tools and processes for monitoring, logging, and performance analysis of AI solutions
• Implement infrastructure in mixed-cloud environments (primarily GCP, additionally AWS and/or Azure) using microservices, containers (Docker, Kubernetes), and Infrastructure-as-Code with Terraform, Terragrunt, and OpenTofu
• Optimize and automate infrastructure scaling with cloud technologies
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement MLOps/DevOps requirements
• Build and maintain test and production environments in cloud platforms for AI product deployment
• Apply cloud-native design patterns, infrastructure best practices, and network concepts to ensure scalable and secure deployments
