Job summary
The Senior DevOps/Platform Engineer builds secure, reliable deployment automation for a hybrid railway-connectivity estate that includes remote, resource-constrained, intermittently connected systems. The role owns GitLab CI/CD pipelines and uses Puppet and Ansible to automate testing, controlled releases, and rollbacks, while supporting Linux, networking, virtualization, and release engineering. It also promotes safe, auditable use of AI-assisted tools in collaboration with development, QA, and operations teams.

Qualifications
- At least 3 years of relevant experience
- Strong ownership of production quality
- Expertise in GitLab CI/CD, Ansible or Puppet automation, Linux administration, release engineering, networking, virtualization, and infrastructure as code
- Desirable experience with Kubernetes, GitOps, cloud platforms, monitoring, and hybrid edge-to-cloud environments
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines, reusable templates, runners, and pipeline images
- Automate deployment and maintenance across a hybrid estate using Puppet and Ansible
- Maintain customer-specific configuration and data for consistent, parameterized deployments
- Automate controlled releases with staged rollouts, health checks, approval gates, and tested rollbacks
- Build pipeline quality gates and virtualized test environments
- Automate versioning, release notes, documentation publishing, and promotion between environments
- Secure pipelines with protected secrets, least-privilege access, and security scanning
- Evaluate deployment and infrastructure automation tools
- Promote safe, reviewed, and auditable use of AI-assisted engineering tools
- Diagnose faults across Linux, networking, and application layers
- Coordinate testing with developers and QA, and document test plans and results
- Configure and install wireless access points and switches
- Maintain deployment and process documentation and support staff handover and training
