Job summary

OpenTech Alliance is seeking a strategic Director of Platform Engineering to lead the platforms, standards, and practices that power OpenTech’s engineering ecosystem. This role oversees cloud infrastructure, developer experience, software delivery, observability, and reliability, enabling teams to build and ship software safely at scale. The ideal candidate will balance technical vision and operational discipline, partnering across various departments to accelerate delivery and strengthen resilience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years in DevOps, Infrastructure Engineering, Platform Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering
  • 3+ years managing engineering teams
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred): ECS, EC2, ECR, Lambda, RDS, S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, CloudFront, SQS
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred)
  • Experience with CI/CD platforms (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
  • Experience with containerized workloads, orchestration platforms, networking, security, and cloud architecture
  • Experience with observability and monitoring platforms
  • Experience with disaster recovery and business continuity planning
  • Experience with enterprise databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server
  • Experience with Git-based development workflows

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the long-term DevOps, Platform Engineering, and Infrastructure strategy
  • Establish technology roadmaps aligned to company growth, scalability, and reliability objectives
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and drive adoption of modern software delivery practices
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on infrastructure and operational strategy
  • Own the architecture and operation of cloud infrastructure platforms
  • Establish standards for CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, deployment automation, and environment management
  • Drive improvements in delivery performance, deployment frequency, and change failure rates
  • Build internal platforms that enable self-service capabilities for development teams
  • Establish and maintain SLOs, SLIs, and operational performance metrics
  • Own infrastructure availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies
  • Lead incident management, postmortem reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Drive a culture of observability, monitoring, and proactive system management
