Google Cloud Platform Engineer (m/w/d)

Job summary

Thales is establishing a new, 100% German business unit in partnership with Google Cloud to provide a locally and autonomously operated 'Trusted Cloud' that meets strict BSI requirements. This role involves operating and developing highly available sovereign GCP services, focusing on stability, scalability, and performance, while collaborating with global SRE and GCP expert teams.

Qualifications

• Successfully completed degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a comparable Master's degree
• Several years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and in automating operational and incident management processes
• Knowledge of regulated industries with high compliance requirements, such as banking, insurance, healthcare, or comparable environments
• Experience in international work environments and very good German and English language skills, both written and spoken
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and a high willingness to learn and enthusiasm for modern cloud technologies

Responsibilities

• Operate and develop highly available sovereign GCP services with a focus on stability, scalability, and performance
• Monitor SLI/SLO metrics, analyze and resolve production issues in 24x7 operations, including participation in on-call duty
• Collaborate with global SRE and GCP expert teams for rapid incident analysis, troubleshooting, and sustainable service optimization
• Document operational knowledge, standardize processes, and develop automation and operational playbooks
• Conduct post-mortem analyses after incidents to identify improvement potential and promote continuous optimization of the system landscape
