Job summary

As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will support the deployment of a new on-premises cloud platform for the MOD, helping to deliver resilient, secure, and high-performing environments. You will take ownership of complex infrastructure challenges and contribute to the successful delivery of a strategically important program. This role involves supporting the design, build, configuration, and testing of critical infrastructure components, ensuring they meet operational and security requirements.

• Extensive infrastructure engineering experience in secure or highly regulated environments
• Strong Microsoft platform expertise
• Proactive approach to problem solving
• Ability to design, implement, and support enterprise-scale infrastructure solutions
• 10+ years of experience in Wintel infrastructure engineering
• Strong expertise in Active Directory and Group Policy administration
• Proven experience administering Microsoft Hyper-V environments
• Strong PowerShell scripting and automation skills
• Experience implementing and supporting PKI solutions
• Proven ability to design, build, and secure enterprise infrastructure
• Experience working within highly secure or classified environments
• Strong understanding of infrastructure security hardening principles
• Excellent troubleshooting skills
• Excellent documentation skills
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills
• Experience with Linux administration (desirable)
• Azure Stack Hub experience (desirable)
• Network design and implementation experience (desirable)
• Previous MOD or wider Defence sector experience (desirable)
• Understanding of hybrid cloud and on-premises cloud environments (desirable)

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver secure on-premises infrastructure solutions
• Build and configure servers, desktops, virtualization platforms, and supporting services
• Test and validate infrastructure components against operational requirements
• Harden and secure environments to meet stringent security standards
• Administer and optimize Microsoft-based infrastructure technologies
• Collaborate and advise project teams, architects, vendors, and stakeholders
• Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, and templates
• Support and improve production, development, and test environments
• Contribute and influence infrastructure strategy and technology roadmaps
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues
