Infrastructure Platform Engineer - Rail Signalling

Job summary

Designs, deploys, and secures physical and virtual infrastructure platforms for critical railway signalling systems, supporting stability, interoperability, and long-term maintainability. The role covers platform architecture, enterprise hardware, GNU/Linux and Windows, networking, SAN/NAS storage, virtualisation, and SQL databases, alongside security hardening, automation, testing, commissioning, and customer support.

• Degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience in platform, infrastructure, or systems engineering
• Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and troubleshooting hardware-intensive, highly available infrastructure
• Advanced GNU/Linux administration skills, preferably with Red Hat, and strong Bash/Shell scripting abilities
• Understanding of enterprise networking, SAN/NAS storage, virtualisation, and infrastructure cybersecurity
• Fluency in English and Spanish
• Experience with VMware vSphere, Windows Server, or SQL databases such as PostgreSQL is advantageous
• Familiarity with Ansible, Prometheus, or Grafana is advantageous
• Exposure to industrial control systems, SCADA, or operational technology is advantageous

Responsibilities

• Translate customer, system, product, and cybersecurity requirements into platform architectures, technical specifications, equipment layouts, network and storage designs, and redundancy concepts.
• Design, configure, integrate, and administer resilient infrastructure platforms and enterprise or industrial equipment.
• Develop automated, version-controlled processes for platform installation, configuration, deployment, updates, backup, and recovery.
• Build and maintain pre-production and validation environments, applying operating-system hardening, secure communications, vulnerability management, and security patching.
• Optimise capacity, performance, availability, monitoring, and resource utilisation; diagnose issues across infrastructure and application layers.
• Plan and execute integration, testing, commissioning, migration, upgrades, and troubleshooting in laboratory and customer environments.
• Create and maintain architecture documents, designs, test evidence, commissioning procedures, manuals, and training materials.
• Collaborate with engineering, cybersecurity, project, supplier, and customer teams; support project delivery, maintenance, troubleshooting, and training.
