Job summary

Barclays UK is seeking a Junior Infrastructure Engineer to build, maintain, and support infrastructure platforms across various environments, ensuring systems are reliable, scalable, and secure. This role involves working across the full lifecycle, applying best practices in automation and incident response, and contributing to on-call support on a rotational basis. The position is permanent and based in Edinburgh.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of core AWS Cloud Infrastructure elements such as EC2s, ALBs, and SGs.
  • Experience developing and running code using DevOps pipeline tools such as Cloudbees/Jenkins or GitLab.
  • Basic knowledge of RHEL O/S commands.
  • Experience supporting and monitoring critical production applications, resolving incidents, and raising changes.
  • Knowledge of advanced AWS Infrastructure as Code elements such as Cloud Formation and/or Containers.
  • Experience using and creating dashboards/queries with monitoring/logging tools like DataDog.
  • In-depth technical knowledge and experience in assigned area of expertise.
  • Thorough understanding of underlying principles and concepts within the area of expertise.

  • Identify appropriate technologies and solutions to meet business, optimization, and resourcing requirements.
  • Monitor IT infrastructure and system performance to measure, identify, address, and resolve potential issues, vulnerabilities, or outages.
  • Use data to drive down mean time to resolution.
  • Develop and implement automated tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention, utilizing software scripting/coding disciplines.
  • Implement secure configurations and measures to protect infrastructure against cyber-attacks, vulnerabilities, and other security threats.
  • Protect hardware, software, and data from unauthorized access.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, architects, and other engineers to define IT Infrastructure requirements.
  • Devise solutions and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives via a data-driven approach.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations.
  • Actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Perform prescribed activities in a timely manner and to a high standard, consistently driving continuous improvement.
  • Lead and supervise a team, guiding and supporting professional development, allocating work requirements, and coordinating team resources (if applicable).
