Junior Platform Engineer

Job summary

The Junior Platform Engineer helps build and operate an Azure cloud platform and a self-service golden path for engineering teams to deploy software safely and efficiently. The role covers Terraform infrastructure, GitLab CI/CD pipelines, security and governance controls, developer onboarding, observability, cost management, and platform support, using services and tools such as Azure Container Apps, Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, SonarQube, JFrog, and New Relic.

• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure through work, study, or personal projects, including core cloud services and at least one platform service.
• Experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines, ideally with GitLab.
• Working knowledge of infrastructure as code, ideally Terraform, including modules, state, and environments.
• Scripting and automation experience in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Experience using Git and contributing through merge requests and code review.
• Familiarity with Linux, Docker, and cloud security fundamentals.
• Desirable exposure to platform engineering, golden paths, internal developer platforms, application templates, or self-service tooling.
• Desirable experience with quality, security, or monitoring tools such as SonarQube, JFrog Artifactory, BrowserStack, Trivy, Gitleaks, Checkov, New Relic, or Azure Monitor.
• Desirable experience using AI coding assistants such as Claude Code.

Responsibilities

• Build, configure, and operate Azure landing zones and shared platform services.
• Write, test, and maintain Terraform modules and environment configuration.
• Build and maintain GitLab CI/CD templates with automated testing, quality gates, security scanning, and artifact management.
• Implement security and governance controls, including access controls, secrets management, Azure Policy, and tagging standards.
• Onboard delivery teams to the golden path and maintain application templates, standards, and documentation.
• Provide New Relic monitoring, logging, health checks, and alerting for deployed applications.
• Support cost management through budgets, right-sizing, and cleanup of unused resources.
• Triage platform issues, maintain runbooks, contribute to post-incident reviews, automate manual tasks, and join the support rota after training.
