Job summary
COMBASE AG is seeking a Linux Infrastructure Engineer to join their infrastructure team in Dresden. The role involves operating and improving a critical infrastructure focusing on Linux systems, web servers, databases, monitoring, backups, and security. The engineer will also support development teams with infrastructure, deployment, and software operations.
Qualifications
- Good practical experience with Linux systems (e.g., Debian, Ubuntu, Red Hat).
- Proficient in using shell, system services, logs, rights, processes, and networks.
- Experience operating web servers, especially Apache or Nginx.
- Understanding of HTTP/HTTPS, certificates, proxies, reverse proxies, and load balancing.
- Practical experience with MySQL or PostgreSQL.
- Experience with monitoring, backups, and structured error analysis.
- Basic knowledge of automation and scripting (e.g., Bash, Python, Ansible).
- Interest in stable, traceable, and secure systems.
- Pragmatic work approach and enjoyment in solving technical problems cleanly.
- Very good German language skills (at least C1) and basic English skills.
- Experience with Docker, Podman, or other container technologies (desirable).
- Initial contact with Kubernetes or OpenShift (desirable).
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Terraform (desirable).
- Knowledge of Git, GitLab, or CI/CD processes (desirable).
- Experience with application servers like WildFly, JBoss, or Tomcat (desirable).
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools like Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana, Icinga, OpenTelemetry, or ELK (desirable).
- Basic knowledge of IT security, firewalls, certificate management, and data protection (desirable).
- Basic understanding of Java/Kotlin applications, Gradle, or Maven (desirable).
- Personal enthusiasm for Linux, Open Source, or a home lab (desirable).
Responsibilities
- Manage and develop Linux and Open Source infrastructure.
- Administer servers, services, networks, user rights, and system processes.
- Operate and configure Apache, Nginx, and similar web servers.
- Work with load balancers, proxies, reverse proxies, and certificates.
- Manage MySQL and PostgreSQL systems.
- Perform monitoring, logging, error analysis, and performance review.
- Plan, execute, and control updates, backups, and recovery scenarios.
- Plan and execute backup and disaster recovery tests.
- Automate recurring tasks using Bash, Python, or Ansible.
- Support development with build, test, and deployment processes.
- Contribute to security, stability, and availability topics.
- Document systems, changes, and operational procedures.
- Support support and project teams with technical questions.
