Manager, AWS Platform Engineer

Job summary

Designs, builds, and operates secure, scalable AWS platforms and delivery pipelines for client needs, contributing throughout the software development lifecycle. The role includes translating requirements into technical designs, automating CI/CD and infrastructure as code, optimising and troubleshooting production workloads, and mentoring engineers. Relevant technologies include AWS services such as EC2, EKS, RDS, S3, and Lambda, alongside Terraform, CloudFormation, and AWS CDK.

• Demonstrated experience in IT infrastructure, cloud engineering, or cloud architecture, including compute, storage, networking, and cloud management.
• Experience designing, building, and maintaining cloud platforms and infrastructure, particularly on AWS.
• Experience working with client requirements in multidisciplinary delivery teams.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, EKS, RDS, Redshift, S3, VPC, IAM, Lambda, App Runner, or Fargate.
• Infrastructure as code experience with Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
• CI/CD pipeline experience with Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, AWS CodePipeline, AWS CodeBuild, or similar tools.
• Knowledge of cloud networking, security, identity management, and AWS best practices.
• Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, the ELK stack, CloudWatch, or AWS X-Ray.
• Experience with Git and a scripting or programming language such as TypeScript, Python, Bash, or Go.
• Ability to troubleshoot and optimise enterprise workloads for performance, cost, and reliability.
• Clear communication skills and experience working with client and delivery stakeholders.
• Experience mentoring or supporting other engineers through reviews or knowledge sharing.
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer – Associate certification, or active progress toward one.
• Willingness and eligibility to obtain UK Security Check (SC) clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain secure AWS solutions, platforms, and delivery pipelines across the software development lifecycle.
• Translate client requirements into robust, scalable technical designs aligned with business objectives.
• Contribute to system design, design reviews, technical assurance, and delivery planning.
• Write well-tested, documented code and promote consistent engineering practices.
• Automate CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code using DevOps practices.
• Optimise AWS workloads for performance, cost, security, reliability, and supportability.
• Troubleshoot production issues, support live services, and resolve complex problems.
• Identify technical delivery risks and recommend mitigations.
• Explain technical options to client stakeholders and help develop practical delivery plans.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance.
• Track AWS services and approaches, including Amazon Bedrock and Amazon Q Business, and propose relevant innovations.
• Contribute to engineering learning sessions, reusable assets, methods, and intellectual property.
• Support technical pre-sales, including bid documents, RFIs, RFPs, and client presentations.
• Participate in technical interviews and support team onboarding.
