Mid-Level DevOps Engineer

Job summary

Akoova is seeking a Mid-Level DevOps Engineer to join their growing team. This role involves working with client tickets, improving existing IaC and tooling, and participating in an on-call rota. The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of experience in a DevOps, SRE, platform, or sysadmin role, with a focus on AWS and infrastructure-as-code.

• Two to five years in a DevOps, SRE, platform, or sysadmin role
• At least two years on AWS in production
• Comfortable with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform and Chef)
• Strong experience with one IaC tool and willingness to learn the other
• Solid Linux fundamentals
• Bash scripting proficiency
• MySQL/RDS basics (slow queries, EXPLAIN)
• Comfort reading observability dashboards and logs
• Ability to own routine tickets end-to-end
• Ability to recognize when senior assistance is needed
• Magento or PHP application hosting experience (preferred)
• Prior managed services, agency, or hosting experience (nice to have)
• Experience working in a PCI DSS environment (nice to have)
• Experience with Datadog, New Relic, or Sumo Logic (nice to have)
• Familiarity with GitHub, Github Actions, and Jira (nice to have)

Responsibilities

• Work client tickets to resolution, escalating when necessary
• Write and maintain Chef cookbooks and Terraform for AWS estate
• Build and improve internal tooling
• Participate in the on-call rota
• Own client ticket queue without escalating routine work
• Handle on-call incidents (scaling, site-down responses, health issues)
• Work hands-on with IaC stack (Terraform, Chef, Ansible, Bash)
• Make sensible changes using Python and Go
• Identify platform anomalies
