Job summary

The Network and Systems Administrator role focuses on maintaining and enhancing the Software Development Environment for the Battlespace Communication System (BCS) Program. Key responsibilities include performing Linux systems administration, managing a complex networking environment, and automating infrastructure using code concepts, all while collaborating with diverse teams to improve software deployment processes.

Qualifications

  • Australian Citizenship required for defence security
  • Experience with Linux operating system and system administration
  • Solid experience with IP networks and routing principles
  • Experience in defence or complex engineering project environments is desirable
  • Experience with commercial networking products like CISCO, Juniper, Palo Alto
  • Knowledge of virtualization technologies such as VMWare, KVM, Libvirt
  • Familiarity with software languages like Python, Ansible, Bash, Go
  • Experience with Atlassian tools like Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket
  • Experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, SonarQube, Artifactory, Gitlab
  • Ability to develop and maintain IT systems documentation
  • Knowledge of the software development lifecycle with an agile mindset
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to multitask and perform under pressure
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills

Responsibilities

  • Perform Linux systems administration tasks
  • Lead planning and monitoring of a complex networking environment
  • Create and maintain documentation for infrastructure and software development
  • Participate in software deployment to the Mission System Test and Integration Facility
  • Engage with stakeholders to improve the software development environment
  • Conduct ad-hoc testing within the Systems Integration Facility
  • Contribute to environment automation using infrastructure as code
  • Participate in a collaborative environment using agile methodologies
  • Review pull requests and provide feedback
  • Participate in code reviews and provide feedback
  • Communicate and collaborate with a diverse team
