Platform Engineer (all genders)

Job summary

Operate and develop a large-scale hosting platform spanning Linux, Proxmox/KVM virtualization, storage, networking, monitoring, and observability. Troubleshoot complex issues to their root cause, automate with Ansible and Git, oversee maintenance and migrations, and contribute to capacity and hardware planning. Document design decisions and collaborate with Platform, Support, Development, Network, and Security teams.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of experience operating or developing large-scale Linux and virtualization environments.
• Hands-on experience with Linux troubleshooting and performance, Proxmox/KVM or comparable virtualization, Ansible, and monitoring solutions such as Zabbix or Prometheus/Grafana.
• Ideally, experience with ZFS or Ceph, networking technologies including BGP, L3 routing, VLAN, or Open vSwitch, Git/CI, and Bash or Python scripting.
• Very good German and English skills.
• Training as an IT specialist in system integration, a computer science degree, or comparable qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate and further develop the hosting platform across virtualization, storage, networking, monitoring, and observability.
• Serve as the technical escalation point for the Platform Support team.
• Analyze complex issues to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
• Automate platform operations using Ansible and Git.
• Plan and oversee maintenance, upgrades, and migrations.
• Contribute to capacity and hardware planning, including new hardware generations and locations.
• Make and transparently document design decisions for an assigned platform domain.
• Share technical knowledge with the team.
• Collaborate with Platform, Support, Development, Network, and Security teams.
