Platform Engineer DevOps / Cloud (IT) / Freelance

Job summary

Build, operate, and evolve the cloud platform hosting web applications, with a focus on reliability, cost control, and developer experience. The work includes provisioning infrastructure with Terraform, administering production Kubernetes clusters, maintaining shared GitHub Actions pipelines and Docker/Helm packaging, and delivering observability with OpenTelemetry, VictoriaMetrics, Grafana, and PromQL or MetricsQL. Capacity planning, autoscaling, and infrastructure cost visibility are also core responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Production experience with a major cloud provider; Google Cloud Platform preferred and Scaleway appreciated.
• Production Terraform experience, including module design and state and environment management.
• Production Kubernetes experience administering clusters beyond application deployment.
• Experience building reusable, multi-team GitHub Actions pipelines.
• Experience with Docker and Helm packaging and deployment tools.
• Experience with OpenTelemetry, VictoriaMetrics, Grafana, or Prometheus.
• Knowledge of capacity planning, autoscaling, and FinOps.
• Strong foundations in networking and caching for web platforms.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools with human review and no secrets in context.
• Technical English proficiency, written and spoken.
• Experience with Git and remote collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design, provision, and evolve cloud infrastructure with Terraform.
• Deploy and administer production Kubernetes clusters, including upgrades, networking, ingress, security, and access controls.
• Build and maintain shared GitHub Actions workflows, runners, caching, secrets, releases, and rollback processes.
• Maintain shared Docker images and Helm charts.
• Implement observability using OpenTelemetry, VictoriaMetrics, Grafana dashboards, and PromQL or MetricsQL alerts.
• Manage capacity and autoscaling based on observed behavior, including load testing and pre-scaling.
• Improve infrastructure cost visibility and identify cost-saving measures.
• Document technical decisions and their cost impact in English.
