Job summary
Builds, operates, and continuously improves secure, reliable, and cost-effective AWS platforms that help engineering teams deliver services safely. The role uses AWS CDK and CloudFormation, container platforms, GitLab CI, and Datadog to automate infrastructure, improve observability and resilience, address security risks, and optimise cloud costs. It also includes on-call incident response and coaching application teams on AWS operational practices.

Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of AWS services and practices for automation, operations, security, resilience, and cost optimisation.
- Experience with AWS services including CloudFront, EC2, S3, ECS, EKS, RDS, SNS, SQS, Lambda, and Step Functions.
- Strong understanding of infrastructure as code with AWS CloudFormation and AWS CDK.
- Knowledge of container operations and security, CI/CD, Git-based workflows, and Datadog observability.
- Proficiency in at least one of TypeScript, Python, Go, or Java.
- At least five years of experience in cloud, platform, DevOps, or a similar engineering role, including hands-on management of AWS production environments.
- Experience building cloud infrastructure with AWS CDK and CloudFormation.
- Practical experience with Docker, ECS, or EKS and their operational and security practices.
- Experience implementing and operating Datadog or a comparable enterprise observability platform.
- Experience working in complex, cross-functional Agile teams and building automation, internal tools, infrastructure pipelines, and release processes.
Responsibilities
- Build and improve secure, scalable, reusable AWS platform capabilities using infrastructure as code and automated delivery.
- Operate and enhance cloud infrastructure, container platforms, application hosting services, and supporting tools.
- Improve reliability through observability, service-level objectives, resilience patterns, disaster recovery, and incident response.
- Identify and remediate cloud security risks, vulnerabilities, and compliance gaps with security and application teams.
- Optimise cloud costs and capacity through architecture, lifecycle management, tagging, and usage insights.
- Maintain secure CI/CD pipelines, runners, and deployment workflows.
- Create internal tools, standards, and reusable patterns that improve developer experience and reduce manual work.
- Coach application teams in AWS operational excellence and platform standards.
- Use approved AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly to improve platform delivery and operations.
- Join the on-call roster and contribute to incident reviews and corrective actions.
