Job summary
The Platform Engineer builds and evolves an internal developer platform that helps software teams develop, deploy, and operate services while reducing infrastructure toil and improving productivity, security, reliability, and cost efficiency. The role automates cloud infrastructure provisioning with Terraform, Helm, and Crossplane, promotes GitOps, establishes monitoring and logging foundations, and supports production operations through an out-of-hours on-call rota. The platform supports energy utilities and their changing energy systems.

Qualifications
- Experience building and shipping production applications.
- Experience with AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure; AWS is preferred.
- Experience creating and maintaining Kubernetes clusters in production, or strong interest in doing so.
- Foundational understanding of distributed systems.
- Experience with CI/CD, GitOps, and Infrastructure as Code.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain a scalable, reliable, developer-friendly platform.
- Develop tools that simplify platform use and improve developer experience and operational efficiency.
- Automate cloud infrastructure provisioning with Terraform, Helm, and Crossplane, and promote GitOps practices.
- Establish monitoring and logging foundations in collaboration with Site Reliability Engineering.
- Apply security best practices, support compliance, and participate in the on-call rota.
- Troubleshoot issues and help prevent their recurrence.
- Coordinate upgrades with internal and external stakeholders and hold service providers accountable.
