Platform Engineer (Remote)

Job summary

The Platform Engineer role focuses on building and maintaining monitoring, observability, and infrastructure automation for a cloud platform. Key responsibilities include deploying and configuring Zabbix, building Grafana dashboards, and using Ansible and Terraform for infrastructure automation within a VMware Cloud Foundation and Kubernetes environment.

Qualifications

• Eligible to obtain Secret Level Clearance.
• Hands-on experience with Zabbix or comparable tools.
• Working knowledge of Prometheus and Grafana.
• Experience with alert management tools.
• Proficiency in scripting and automation (Bash, Python).
• Experience with at least one IaC tool (Ansible, Terraform).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.
• Basic database administration skills.
• Comfort working independently in a remote environment.

Responsibilities

• Deploy, configure, and maintain Zabbix for system and network monitoring.
• Build and maintain Prometheus exporters and Grafana dashboards.
• Configure and manage Opsgenie for alert routing and on-call schedules.
• Analyze alert noise and tune thresholds.
• Integrate monitoring systems with incident management tools.
• Maintain and optimize monitoring infrastructure.
• Write and maintain Ansible playbooks.
• Use Terraform for provisioning infrastructure resources.
• Build and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
• Act as a first responder for monitoring-related incidents.
• Investigate and resolve performance issues.
• Document incidents and contribute to post-incident reviews.
• Work within VMware vCenter / VCF and Kubernetes environments.
