Platform Engineer

Job summary

Thales is seeking a Platform Engineer to support and evolve a dedicated AI platform capability within the UK Digital Competence Centre, focusing on maintaining secure and high-performing on-premise infrastructure services.

Qualifications

• Experience with Windows Server operating systems.
• Experience with Unix-based systems, especially Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
• Experience with VMware ESXi and other hypervisors.
• Experience supporting containerized environments, particularly Kubernetes.
• Skills in incident and problem management and troubleshooting.
• Understanding of core networking principles.
• Knowledge of application and operating system lifecycle management.
• Experience in enterprise or operational infrastructure support.
• Understanding of platform and infrastructure support principles.

Responsibilities

• Support and maintain the infrastructure for an on-premise hosted AI platform.
• Monitor platform health and performance, resolving issues as part of service support.
• Perform routine maintenance and lifecycle activities, including patching and upgrades.
• Collaborate with engineering, security, and service teams for platform governance.
• Contribute to technical documentation and continuous improvement activities.
• Support day-to-day operations across physical servers and virtual environments.
• Maintain service availability and performance through proactive maintenance.
• Support containerized services and their underlying infrastructure.
• Conduct routine maintenance activities and health checks.
• Manage hardware and software lifecycles for security and supportability.
• Maintain technical documentation and operational records.
• Investigate and resolve infrastructure issues per support processes.
• Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers to restore services.
• Identify opportunities for reliability and efficiency improvements.
