Platform Engineer

Job summary

York Space Systems is seeking a Junior / Early Career Flight Software Platform Engineer to support the Flight Software Engineering team. This hands-on role involves working with embedded Linux, spacecraft systems, and mission-critical software, with mentorship from senior engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience
• 0–3 years of experience in software development, embedded systems, or Linux
• Basic programming experience in C, C++, Python, or Bash
• Familiarity with Linux development environments
• Interest in embedded Linux and spacecraft systems
• Familiarity with software development practices including Git and documentation
• Willingness to learn complex systems
• Ability to work in a cross-functional engineering environment
• Strong teamwork and collaboration skills

Responsibilities

• Participate in an agile scrum team supporting the embedded Linux platform for flight software
• Support development and maintenance of the embedded Linux platform
• Collaborate with team members and management for project execution
• Contribute to platform stability, security, and maintainability
• Participate in technical design and code reviews
• Support implementation of software architectures and designs
• Assist with unit, integration, and hardware-in-the-loop testing
• Work with subsystems for proper integration of platform software
• Support continuous improvement of team practices
• Grow technical ownership in areas like Yocto-based build systems and Linux kernel customization
