Job summary

Lead a Platform Engineering team responsible for managing and improving IT platforms across Azure, AWS, OCI, and on-premises infrastructure. The role involves team leadership, automation, AI tooling, and ensuring regulatory compliance within a financial services environment.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience leading a geographically distributed platform or cloud engineering team.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Azure and AWS in production environments.
  • Solid DevOps experience including Terraform, Ansible, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Practical experience using AI tooling to enhance operational work.
  • Experience across the operational lifecycle: backups, restore testing, DR, resilience testing, monitoring, alerting, incident, and problem management, and on-call.
  • Experience in a regulated environment, preferably financial services, with mature change, audit, and risk processes.
  • Proactive and innovative leader with strong proposal generation skills.
  • Clear communicator with engineers, senior stakeholders, and auditors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of 9 platform engineers across the UK, Ireland, and Mumbai.
  • Conduct one-on-ones, set objectives, manage performance, and grow team capability.
  • Manage the team’s on-call rota to provide reliable 24x7 support.
  • Run and improve multi-cloud estate (Azure, AWS, OCI) and on-premises infrastructure.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), configuration management (Ansible), and CI/CD.
  • Utilize AI tooling for scripting, IaC generation, incident triage, runbook automation, and knowledge management.
  • Own the backup strategy and conduct regular restoration testing.
  • Contribute to planning and running DR and resilience tests, documenting outcomes and closing findings.
  • Manage the monitoring and alerting stack, ensuring actionable alerts and proper incident resolution.
  • Build self-service tooling and reusable platform services for development and delivery teams.
  • Operate within Waystone’s control framework, ensuring risk assessment, peer review, and auditability of changes.
  • Partner with InfoSec, Risk, and Compliance on audits and findings.
  • Track cloud spend across Azure, AWS, and OCI, identifying savings and controlling consumption.
  • Maintain accurate and accessible runbooks, SOPs, and architecture documentation.
  • Mentor the team, providing technical assistance and coaching for engineer development.
