Principal Cloud Engineer with Database Expertise

Job summary

GDIT is seeking a Principal Cloud Engineer with Database Expertise to design, implement, optimize, and maintain cloud-based database systems in federal environments.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of relevant experience
• 5+ years of experience in Azure with a focus in databases
• Experience designing, deploying, and administering cloud database solutions
• Hands-on experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases
• Proficiency in scripting/automation
• Familiarity with CI/CD workflows and DevOps concepts
• Experience with monitoring and logging tools
• Strong understanding of database security, encryption, and compliance requirements
• Ability to support critical systems in a fast-paced environment
• Demonstrated communication skills

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and administer database solutions across cloud environments
• Perform configuration, performance tuning, backup/recovery, patching, replication, and monitoring of cloud-hosted databases
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) templates
• Optimize query performance, indexing strategies, and storage usage
• Implement, monitor, and maintain high availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) solutions
• Manage database security, encryption, IAM roles, auditing, and compliance
• Collaborate with application, cloud engineering, DevOps, and cybersecurity teams
• Troubleshoot database incidents and provide timely remediation
• Support migration of legacy on-prem database systems to cloud-native platforms
• Maintain documentation for system configurations and operational procedures
