Principal Engineer - Cloud & DevOps (PS - NV1)

Job summary

The Principal Engineer leads end-to-end delivery of secure, scalable Microsoft Azure platforms and automation across client engagements. The role designs Azure solutions, develops Terraform-based infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines, manages AKS and Helm deployments, and advises senior stakeholders on architecture and technical decisions. It also produces engineering documentation, supports delivery planning, and mentors engineers.

• Hold an NV1 AGSVA security clearance.
• Have deep hands-on experience across Azure IaaS and PaaS with a DevOps mindset.
• Have experience with Terraform, ARM Templates, and Bicep.
• Have experience with Kubernetes and AKS.
• Have experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Bitbucket, Bamboo, or Jenkins.
• Have experience with Terraform and Vault for secrets and credential management.
• Have knowledge of cloud networking, security controls, Entra ID, RBAC, and access design.
• Have experience with Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Be based in Australia; Canberra is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end delivery of Azure platform and automation initiatives.
• Design, document, and implement secure, scalable, reliable Azure solutions.
• Develop and maintain Terraform infrastructure with CI/CD pipelines.
• Provision and manage AKS environments, application deployments, microservices, and Helm charts.
• Provide architecture and design guidance across client engagements.
• Explain technical concepts and recommend solutions to senior stakeholders and executives.
• Produce solution designs, runbooks, governance documentation, and change records.
• Support estimation, planning, and risk management with delivery leaders.
• Mentor engineers, support onboarding, contribute to hiring, and improve team capability.
