Principal Platform Engineer

Job summary

Rowden is seeking a Principal Platform Engineer to define and lead the engineering platform that enhances developer experience and operational efficiency. This hands-on role involves collaborating with various teams to deliver a robust platform vision and improve engineering practices across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Define the technical architecture and long-term direction of Rowden’s internal developer platform (IDP).
• Lead the design and evolution of IDP capabilities, including self-service provisioning and deployment workflows.
• Define the platform's approach to agentic AI, establishing patterns and infrastructure for reliable AI agent operation.
• Set standards for API-first architectures enabling interoperability between systems.
• Own the design and governance of CI/CD pipelines for secure and efficient software delivery.
• Drive adoption of modular platform capabilities for scalable functionality.
• Own infrastructure-as-code standards and automation practices for reliability.
• Embed security, compliance, and best practices into the platform.
• Define and maintain platform standards and reusable components for consistency.
• Lead improvements to observability, monitoring, and alerting capabilities.
• Mentor and develop engineers to raise platform engineering standards.
• Identify opportunities to improve developer experience and reduce cognitive load.
