Job summary

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Principal Site Reliability Engineer to join their Connected Aviation team. This remote role involves owning, managing, and troubleshooting AWS hosted infrastructures, delivering products to commercial customers in a B2B model. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with large-scale cloud systems, a software engineering background, and strong coding skills to fix problems and ensure service availability and performance.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience delivering and operating complex, large-scale cloud systems (AWS preferred)
  • Degree in a relevant STEM field (Bachelor’s or advanced degree required)
  • Flexibility to be available for team meetings as early as 9:00 AM Eastern
  • Software engineering background or good coding skills in an OO language (e.g., .NET or Python) for infrastructure as code using AWS CDK
  • Experience managing AWS ECS clusters
  • Experience working with systems hosted in SQL based databases like PostgreSQL
  • Experience with RabbitMQ message brokers
  • Experience with Bash and/or Powershell scripting for infrastructure
  • Experience with system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning for AWS
  • Experience with CloudFormation
  • Experience with Docker containerization
  • Experience with Git
  • Dual background in both systems infrastructure and software engineering (preferred)
  • Experience with reporting and monitoring using industry standard tools and techniques (preferred)
  • Experience with Azure Dev Ops and Pulumi (preferred)
  • Experience with SCRUM (preferred)
  • Experience with Scaled Agile Framework (bonus)
  • Desire to automate as much as possible and proficiency with automation tools (preferred)
  • Understanding of network segmentation, routing and VPNs (preferred)
  • Security knowledge to work with cyber teams and understand recommendations (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Own one or more AWS hosted infrastructures delivering products to commercial customers in a B2B model
  • Manage, enhance, and troubleshoot AWS environments, ensuring best practices for continuous integration and deployment of new product/infrastructure releases
  • Deliver using an agile pattern with continuous test and release
  • Help and influence team members in using AWS tools to scale features
  • Drive the migration of a multi-tenant Connected Aviation web application from on-premise to AWS cloud
  • Participate in on-call roster supporting critical service incidents
