Job summary

As a Senior Backend / DevOps Engineer, you will work alongside the CTO to build and evolve a fintech product, focusing on backend features (70%) and infrastructure/operations (30%). The role offers significant autonomy in shaping how the company builds, deploys, and scales its product.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in at least one strongly-typed, compiled or strictly-typed language (e.g., Go, TypeScript, Rust, Java, C#, Kotlin) for building high-performance backend services
• Solid grasp of async patterns, concurrency, and performance optimization
• Deep, hands-on experience designing and implementing event-driven systems with messaging patterns (Kafka, RabbitMQ, GCP Pub/Sub, or Redis Streams)
• Understanding of eventual consistency, saga patterns, and ability to articulate trade-offs
• Proven track record building, deploying, and scaling microservice-based systems in production
• Knowledge of when to split services, how to handle distributed transactions, and how to avoid common microservices pitfalls
• Real production experience with GCP, including GKE, Cloud SQL, Memorystore, Cloud Storage, and Secret Manager
• Extensive experience with SQL databases (PostgreSQL preferred)
• Strong foundation in RESTful API design
• Proficiency with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
• Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Cloud Build, or similar)
• Infrastructure as Code with Terraform or similar tools
• Node.js/TypeScript experience is a plus
• Understanding of observability: structured logging, distributed tracing, metrics, and alerting
• Knowledge of API security, authentication/authorization (OAuth 2.0, JWT), and data protection
• Experience with workflow orchestration (Temporal or similar) is a strong plus
• Experience with production launches, including infrastructure setup, edge case handling, and reliability
• Ability to balance technical excellence with business velocity, knowing when to refactor and when to ship quickly
• Proactive, resourceful, and accountable with an ownership mentality
• Collaborative team player who gives and receives feedback gracefully

Responsibilities

• Develop backend features and APIs within a microservices architecture
• Design and implement event-driven patterns and workflow orchestration
• Work with PostgreSQL for schema design, migrations, and query optimization
• Integrate with external APIs (mortgage platforms, CRM, document processing)
• Extend cloud infrastructure (Terraform, Helm) for new services and capabilities
• Improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes
• Implement monitoring, logging, and observability systems
• Optimize system performance, reliability, and scalability
• Collaborate on technical decisions and architecture evolution
• Ensure code quality, security, and operational best practices
