Senior Backend & Platform Engineer

Job summary

Build and operate scalable backend services for vehicle sharing, fleet management, connected devices, payments, and customer experiences. Design APIs, asynchronous and event-driven systems, database integrations, and cloud deployments using Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker, and AWS. Own services throughout development and production, improving performance, reliability, monitoring, and deployment practices.

Qualifications

• At least five years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial hands-on backend development.
• Strong Python proficiency, including asynchronous programming, concurrency, and performance optimization.
• Production experience with FastAPI or comparable Python frameworks and REST API development.
• Strong PostgreSQL experience, including schema design, indexing, query optimization, and transactions.
• Experience with Redis or an equivalent caching technology and integrations with external APIs.
• Understanding of distributed systems, messaging patterns, and background processing.
• Practical experience deploying and operating backend applications on AWS.
• Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, Linux servers, automated testing, debugging, and code quality practices.
• Understanding of HTTP, HTTPS, DNS, load balancing, reverse proxies, and networking fundamentals.
• Experience troubleshooting production issues across application, database, and infrastructure layers.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend applications, REST APIs, microservices, and event-driven services using Python and FastAPI.
• Build integrations with third-party APIs, payment gateways, IoT systems, and external services.
• Design and optimize PostgreSQL schemas, indexes, queries, transactions, and database access patterns.
• Implement asynchronous processing, background workers, and reliable inter-service messaging.
• Deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot backend applications on AWS using Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
• Monitor production services and improve performance, availability, resilience, and fault tolerance.
• Own backend services from design and development through deployment and production operations.
• Review code, contribute to architecture decisions, improve technical debt, and mentor engineers.
