Senior Consultant, AWS Platform Engineer

Job summary

The Senior Platform Engineer designs and delivers secure, scalable AWS platforms for cloud solutions and transformation programmes. The role includes leading technical work packages, translating requirements into maintainable infrastructure, implementing Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines, and troubleshooting platform issues. It also provides technical guidance and mentoring, using AWS services and tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, AWS CDK, Python, TypeScript, Bash, and Go.

Qualifications

• Experience designing, building, and supporting AWS cloud platforms and infrastructure.
• Knowledge of AWS services, cloud architecture, and platform engineering principles.
• Experience with Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
• Experience implementing and supporting CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
• Understanding of cloud networking, identity management, and platform operations.
• Experience with monitoring, logging, and observability tools.
• Experience developing scripts or applications using Python, TypeScript, Bash, or Go.
• Experience troubleshooting infrastructure and platform issues.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience contributing to technical design discussions and solution delivery.
• Strong understanding of AWS platform security principles.
• Experience supporting and coaching less experienced engineers.
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer – Associate certification, or active progress toward one.
• Willingness and eligibility to obtain UK Security Check (SC) clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain AWS platforms, infrastructure, and cloud-native solutions.
• Lead technical work packages and platform engineering activities.
• Translate functional and non-functional requirements into scalable, maintainable solutions.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code, automation tooling, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Apply AWS best practices for security, reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.
• Troubleshoot platform, infrastructure, and deployment issues.
• Support architecture, design, and technical assurance activities.
• Identify technical risks and support mitigation.
• Improve engineering quality through peer reviews, testing, and technical documentation.
• Provide technical leadership and develop expertise in platform engineering domains.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, and client stakeholders.
• Guide and mentor junior engineers.
• Contribute reusable assets, engineering standards, and continuous improvement.
• Evaluate AWS services and engineering approaches.
