Job summary

Expedia Group seeks a Senior Software Engineer for their Data Lake and Catalog team to build and evolve their data lake platform, collaborating with cross-functional partners to design scalable software solutions and mentor engineers.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a senior software engineer building production systems at scale.
• Strong passion for technology and solving complex engineering problems.
• Experience delivering end-to-end solutions focusing on scalability and reliability.
• Strong knowledge of JVM and server-side Kotlin/Java programming.
• Solid understanding of the Hadoop ecosystem, including Spark and Hive.
• Strong experience with cloud platforms and data infrastructure, especially AWS.
• Experience in Agile environments and contributing through code reviews.
• Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver in a fast-paced environment.
• Good understanding of architectural patterns and practical technical approaches.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve maintainable, scalable, testable, and observable software for the data lake platform.
• Lead by example in engineering quality through clean, well-tested code.
• Promote an SLO-driven culture by contributing to reliability goals and observability.
• Partner closely with engineers and stakeholders to clarify requirements.

• Own services and platform capabilities through design and production operation.
• Lead the technical design of services that support scale and resilience.
• Mentor engineers through technical guidance and collaboration.
• Collaborate with architects and partner teams to build beneficial solutions.
