Job summary
EIDU is seeking a Senior Data Platform Engineer to own and rebuild their data platform, integrating AI where appropriate. This role involves managing the entire data lifecycle, from ingestion to BI, and ensuring data trustworthiness for reporting to funders and governments. The successful candidate will be a key member of a small data team, responsible for shaping the platform's future.

Qualifications
- Possess strong opinions on the appropriate use of AI in a data platform.
- Ability to analyze dbt's tradeoffs and recommend alternative semantic layers (MetricFlow, Cube, Malloy) or SQLMesh.
- Broad command of the modern data stack, including stream and batch processing, OLAP, orchestration, transformation, and observability.
- Understanding of tradeoffs between different data stack components.
- Proficiency in AWS, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and CI/CD to deploy and manage tooling independently.
- Comfortable working as the sole data engineer on a small data team.
Responsibilities
- Own the data platform end-to-end, including ingestion, warehouse, transformation tooling, BI, scheduling, observability, and governance.
- Build a governed layer for trustworthy AI-assisted analytics, including semantic and metric definitions, data contracts, and tests.
- Ensure reproducible and audited numbers for funders and government programs.
- Implement AI on the platform for freshness, cost, anomaly detection, pipeline triage, and automated first-pass resolution.
- Automate repeatable and verifiable tasks.
- Build observability, governance, and access control across the stack, including scoped credentials, RBAC, access tiers in the warehouse and Metabase, audit, lineage, and compliance.
- Partner with product engineering on product event data, establishing data contracts and fueling in-app analytics products.
