Job summary

The Data Platform Engineer administers a production BigQuery environment and Dataplex security controls while maintaining reliable Fivetran ingestion and end-to-end ELT integrity. The role manages GCP IAM, service accounts, policy tags, PII masking, platform costs and performance, and incident response; it also advises engineering and analytics teams on BigQuery practices and evaluates GCP features. The work includes operational documentation and access administration in a regulated or PII-sensitive data environment.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on production experience with Google Cloud Platform, especially BigQuery.
  • Strong BigQuery knowledge, including cost optimization, partitioning, clustering, and slot management.
  • Hands-on Dataplex experience with policy tags, taxonomies, PII masking, and fine-grained IAM roles.
  • Experience with GCP IAM, service accounts, and least-privilege access administration.
  • Experience in regulated or PII-sensitive data environments, such as GDPR- or HIPAA-related settings.
  • Experience operating or supporting an ELT ingestion tool such as Fivetran, Airbyte, or CData.
  • Experience with production data monitoring, alerting, incident response, and root-cause analysis.
  • At least 3 years in data platform or cloud platform operations.
  • Strong SQL skills and data-modeling fluency to troubleshoot raw, staging, and mart layers.
  • Ability to use the GCP CLI and Python or Bash scripting to automate platform administration and access workflows.
  • Familiarity with dbt, Tableau or a comparable BI platform, and business-system data pipelines is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor Fivetran connectors and troubleshoot warnings, failures, delays, and abnormal loads into BigQuery.
  • Administer BigQuery IAM, service-account patterns, project and dataset structures, costs, and performance.
  • Manage user onboarding, role changes, and offboarding for BigQuery and Dataplex.
  • Advise engineering and analytics teams on BigQuery partitioning, clustering, query optimization, and cost management.
  • Evaluate and promote BigQuery and GCP features that improve reliability, performance, or cost.
  • Maintain internal guidance and documentation on BigQuery practices and standards.
  • Administer Dataplex policy tags, taxonomies, column-level PII masking, and user access according to least-privilege principles.
  • Monitor end-to-end data integrity, completeness, freshness, and performance from ingestion through BigQuery.
  • Respond to ingestion and BigQuery platform incidents during business hours and lead root-cause analysis of recurring issues.
  • Create durable fixes, runbooks, escalation paths, and recovery procedures.
