Senior DevOps/Automation Engineer - IBM Z & hybrid platform

Job summary

This role engineers production-grade automation and DevOps modernization across IBM Z and distributed platforms, building resilient, auditable, and scalable services for a global estate. Responsibilities include developing Python and Ansible automation, integrating GitHub and Jenkins CI/CD pipelines, implementing compliance checks and observability with Grafana and Splunk, managing automation state in PostgreSQL, and securing workflows with HashiCorp Vault.

• minimum 10+ years of demonstrable experience including solution design, governance, compliance and the implementation of DevOps best practice
• At least 2 years’ experience of working within an IBM Z environment.
• Experience with enterprise scale Ansible via AAP.
• Strong Python development knowledge (production quality code, modular design, error handling, logging, testing).
• PostgreSQL (schema design, performance tuning, operational usage).
• Jenkins pipeline development (Groovy).
• Technical leadership: Proven ability to mentor other engineers, provide technical guidance and embed engineering best practices across the team

Responsibilities

• Design and build robust automation using Python and YAML.
• Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks in Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) for production orchestration.
• Integrate automation across distributed and IBM Z platforms (including z/OS job execution patterns where relevant).
• Build and maintain pipelines in GitHub and Jenkins (including Groovy-based pipeline development).
• Embed automated compliance checks and quality gates.
• Design dashboards and telemetry pipelines using Grafana.
• Design schemas and automation state handling in PostgreSQL.
• Implement secure secret handling using HashiCorp Vault.
• Support configuration drift detection and remediation automation.
