Senior DevOps Engineer (Azure)

Job summary

Leads a production migration of a core platform from AWS to Microsoft Azure, owning the migration strategy, infrastructure automation, cutover planning, and final team handoff for a contract of up to six months. The work includes moving EKS workloads to AKS and migrating storage, databases, messaging, serverless, and identity services with minimal downtime, while establishing Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, security controls, observability, and cost management.

Qualifications

• Proven experience migrating live production workloads from AWS to Azure with minimal downtime.
• Experience with EKS-to-AKS migration, Helm, ingress, HPA, KEDA, GitOps, and ACR.
• Experience migrating S3 to Azure Blob Storage, MongoDB to Cosmos DB for MongoDB or Atlas on Azure, and PostgreSQL to Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server.
• Experience with live replication and database cutover.
• Experience migrating SQS to Azure Service Bus and Lambda to Azure Functions.
• Experience migrating Cognito to Microsoft Entra ID or Entra External ID, including user migration and OIDC changes.
• Advanced Terraform or Bicep experience, including modules, remote state, and policy-as-code integrated with CI/CD.
• Knowledge of hub-and-spoke networking, Private Endpoints, Key Vault, Managed Identities, least-privilege RBAC, and Defender for Cloud.
• Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights.
• Scripting experience with Bash, PowerShell, or Python, and familiarity with Azure CLI.
• Active Azure certification such as AZ-305 or AZ-400; AZ-104, AZ-500, CKA, or CKAD are assets.
• Knowledge of Cloud Adoption Framework or landing zone setup.
• Experience with Azure Migrate or similar assessment tools.
• Experience with Cosmos DB RU sizing and MongoDB API compatibility.
• Experience in regulated environments such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, or HIPAA.

Responsibilities

• Assess the existing AWS footprint and design an Azure migration path with cutover and rollback plans.
• Migrate EKS workloads to AKS and move storage, databases, messaging, serverless, and identity services to Azure equivalents with minimal downtime.
• Create reusable Terraform or Bicep infrastructure code.
• Refactor and optimize CI/CD pipelines for Azure deployments.
• Implement network isolation, Key Vault secret management, and Entra ID access controls.
• Set up monitoring, alerting, and cost controls before go-live.
• Coordinate deployment and troubleshooting with Java developers.
• Document the migration and conduct a structured handoff to the internal team.
• Provide stakeholders with progress updates on milestones and architectural roadblocks.
