Senior DevOps Engineer (Azure DevOps) | Contract | Remote

Job summary

Build a secure Azure DevOps capability from the ground up, establishing the platform and security standards for an internal team to operate. Design the organization, projects, repositories, branching strategy, and reusable YAML CI/CD pipelines; implement Infrastructure as Code, identity and access controls, secrets management, security scanning, policy guardrails, and Azure monitoring. Document the platform and complete a clean handover during a focused four-week engagement.

Qualifications

• Experience building Azure DevOps environments from the ground up
• Azure security operations experience with Defender for Cloud, Sentinel, Key Vault, and Azure Policy
• Hands-on experience with Bicep, ARM, or Terraform
• Experience integrating SAST, dependency scanning, and secret detection into pipelines
• Ability to make architectural decisions and explain the reasoning to non-specialists
• Track record delivering short, outcome-focused contracts

Responsibilities

• Establish Azure DevOps organization, projects, repositories, and branching strategy
• Build reusable YAML CI/CD pipelines with release gates
• Create Infrastructure as Code patterns for secure, repeatable deployments
• Configure Entra ID, RBAC, service connections, and least-privilege access
• Implement secrets management, security scanning, and pipeline policy guardrails
• Configure baseline Azure security monitoring and alerting
• Document the platform and hand it over to the internal team
