Senior DevOps Engineer

Job summary

The Senior DevOps Engineer owns the reliability, performance, capacity, and security of AWS data platforms across multiple environments and regions. The role manages RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Valkey, and OpenSearch; leads database upgrades, migrations, incident investigations, and recovery planning; and improves infrastructure, CI/CD, monitoring, and operational automation. The engineer also partners with development and Quality Engineering teams and mentors colleagues.

• Typically at least five years of experience in DevOps, cloud, platform, site reliability engineering, or a related role.
• Hands-on experience operating production AWS infrastructure, including networking, IAM, security, and observability.
• Strong PostgreSQL administration knowledge, preferably with RDS and Aurora, including query tuning, indexing, locking, connection management, and recovery.
• Production experience with DynamoDB, Valkey or Redis-compatible caches, and OpenSearch or Elasticsearch, including performance tuning, capacity management, and failover.
• Proficiency in a scripting or programming language such as Python, Bash, C#, or JavaScript.
• Experience with CloudFormation or Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, Git, and code review practices.
• Demonstrated ownership of production databases and cloud infrastructure, with a record of improving processes through automation.
• Experience leading complex technical investigations, implementing lasting fixes, and guiding engineers across development and operational teams.

Responsibilities

• Own the reliability, performance, and capacity of RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Valkey, and OpenSearch while balancing availability and cost.
• Lead database upgrades and migrations, maintain tested backup and recovery procedures, and improve queries and data access patterns with developers.
• Build and maintain secure, scalable, cost-aware AWS infrastructure across multiple environments and regions using Infrastructure as Code.
• Identify reliability risks and standardize infrastructure patterns to reduce failures and simplify operations.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines and create reusable self-service tools for safe deployments and routine operational tasks.
• Maintain actionable monitoring, alerts, and operational runbooks; lead incident investigations and implement lasting fixes.
• Apply least-privilege access, encryption, secrets management, and AWS security best practices.
• Partner with development and Quality Engineering teams, communicate technical risks and trade-offs, mentor engineers, and review infrastructure and automation changes.
