Job summary
As a DevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building, and operating scalable cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code. You will automate Kubernetes cluster management, implement end-to-end observability, and develop CI/CD pipelines with GitOps workflows. This role involves integrating DevSecOps practices, focusing on reliability initiatives, and collaborating with engineering teams to ensure secure, reliable, scalable, maintainable, and cost-efficient production systems. You will also contribute to shaping AI-assisted platform engineering.

Hybrid working modelHigh-quality work equipment30 days of holidays per year
Qualifications
- Professional proficiency in German and English (written and spoken) for documentation, async communication, and cross-team collaboration.
- 4+ years of experience in a DevOps, Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering role or adjacent field.
- Proven hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production (CKA or equivalent practical experience preferred).
- Strong expertise in at least two IaC tools: Terraform, Terragrunt, Ansible, or Crossplane.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or equivalent).
- Solid understanding of GitOps principles (FluxCD, ArgoCD).
- Experience with observability stacks: Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or Signoz.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps tooling: vulnerability scanning, secrets management (e.g., Vault), policy enforcement.
- Eligibility for a security clearance (Sicherheitsüberprüfung nach SÜG) may be required.
- Experience with on-prem/hybrid Kubernetes environments (bare-metal) is a plus.
- Scripting proficiency in Bash and/or Python for automation and tooling is a plus.
- Knowledge of HA design patterns and failure testing (chaos engineering) is a plus.
- Background in distributed systems troubleshooting and performance tuning is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants (Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) in an infrastructure/IaC context, including prompt engineering for config generation and critical review of AI output, is a plus.
- Experience building AI guardrails in CI/CD, such as linting/validation stages that catch AI-generated misconfigurations before they reach production, is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate scalable cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible), ensuring repeatability, reliability, and reduced operational toil.
- Automate provisioning, lifecycle management, and upgrades of Kubernetes clusters across multiple environments (cloud, on-prem, hybrid).
- Own end-to-end observability: implement and maintain metrics (Prometheus), log aggregation (Signoz), dashboards (Grafana), distributed tracing, and alerting to enable fast incident detection and root-cause analysis.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application artifacts; introduce and operate GitOps workflows (FluxCD) for deterministic, controlled rollouts.
- Integrate DevSecOps practices including automated vulnerability scanning, secrets rotation, and policy enforcement to improve the security posture of production systems.
- Lead reliability-focused initiatives: HA configurations, chaos/failure testing, capacity reviews, and service hardening.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams on architecture reviews, troubleshooting of distributed workloads, and performance optimization of critical components.
- Act as a trusted expert and partner for engineering teams to bring ideas to production securely, reliably, scalably, maintainably, and cost-efficiently.
