Senior DevOps Engineer - Newcastle

Job summary

The Senior DevOps Engineer provides technical leadership in a DevOps team, delivering environments and tools for development and testing across client projects. The role configures platforms such as GitLab, Jenkins, and SonarQube; automates continuous integration, continuous testing, and serverless integrations through APIs; and builds reliable CI/CD pipelines. The work also covers cloud infrastructure, containers, DevSecOps, monitoring, and cloud cost optimisation.

Qualifications

• Experience with public or private cloud platforms.
• Hands-on experience implementing CI/CD and automated software quality assurance tools.
• Experience with infrastructure as code and configuration management.
• Experience setting up, hosting, and orchestrating containers.
• Working knowledge of Agile and Lean software delivery methodologies.
• Experience administering Linux environments.
• Experience with at least one scripting language.
• Ability to mentor junior developers and communicate effectively.
• Experience implementing monitoring and alerting systems.
• Experience defining and managing enterprise DevOps implementation roadmaps.
• Experience with DevSecOps practices and secrets management.
• Experience implementing SAST and DAST scanning in CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with blue-green or canary deployments.
• Ability to develop analytical and creative technical solutions.
• Experience debugging and resolving complex technical issues.
• Knowledge of consuming and invoking RESTful APIs in pipelines and scripts.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical delivery of DevOps environments and tools for development and testing.
• Set up and configure CI/CD, code quality, and performance, security, and resilience testing tools.
• Automate continuous integration and continuous testing processes.
• Automate serverless integrations between systems using APIs.
• Design, build, and maintain scalable CI/CD pipelines for frequent, reliable deployments.
• Drive cloud cost optimisation and resource right-sizing.
